DIY Nights - Conditions of Care

About the Night:

Conditions of Care is a Frieze Week Fringe collaborative performance between visual artist Nadine Mahoney and dance artist Melissa Rayne.

Emerging from their ongoing shared research into embodiment, movement and care, the performance journeys through how women move with the self and the other, conjuring the conditions that support a body to move freely.

This intimate 15-minute dance performance unfolds amongst Mahoney's paintings and sculptural works. Afterwards, audiences are invited to move through the traces and rearrangements left behind by the performance, followed by drinks.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7:15pm start.

About the Artist:

Nadine Mahoney is a London-based artist working across painting, glass and sculpture. Her practice explores how movement, material transformation and acts of care shape our experience of the body. Mahoney's work has been exhibited internationally, with shows at Bury Art Museum, NARS Foundation NY, The Java Project NY, UCL Art Museum and Bruton Art Factory.

Melissa Rayne is a neurodivergent and disabled Outsider Dance Artist working with dance as a magickal act of transformation. Her transdisciplinary practice explores otherness and the numinous, drawing on occult thinking to create performance encounters that invite audiences in. Credits include: Arts Council England DYCP Award, Alchemists for Protein Dance’s En Route Together and The Tree of Life at Thamesmead Festival. A freelance performer since 2010, Rayne has worked internationally with BBC TV, Zero Balett, West Green House Opera and Elrow London.

DIY Nights are CDS’s performance programme created in the spirit of grassroots, low stakes performance making and sharing.

Anyone can apply to run a DIY Night, and CDS programmes them on a rolling basis for artists looking for a way to try out new ideas with low financial risk.
