About the Lab:
Is there an impulse you are holding back? What is it you want to tell someone?
Follow your nose, follow your toes, follow your impulses and indulge in your natural dance.
Explore how you can express yourself to others, tell a story in a new way, or just dance with the words and emotions that feel right.
This workshop begins with breathwork and introspective movement inspired by The Graham technique, discovering new impulses by building awareness of what your body is saying to you, followed by improvisation of your own curiosities.
The second part of the workshop will use our impulse to tell a story about ourselves, using words and dance to enhance and contrast each other, in serious, or goofy, impulsive or calculated ways.
Enjoy a space that celebrates each tale for being unique and authentic to the storyteller.
Open to all movers who want to explore ways of telling their story.
About the Lab Leader:
Bella is a London-based dancer whose practice centres around connecting with impulse within codified techniques, and exploring text in improvisation and creation. Inspired by questioning why she dances, she has been researching our inner-animal impulse to move as well as exploring what she wants to use dance to express. She recently choreographed and performed ‘Praying for a Car Park (& Other Miracles),’ an autobiographical solo which uses spoken word and dance to explore the absurd side of attending a Convent School.
Accessibility:
Please note, we are on the second floor of a warehouse building, accessed by a staircase only. We regret that we cannot currently adequately support wheelchair users and those for whom stairs are a barrier.
We are committed to removing other barriers to access. If you would like to talk to us about your access needs, please contact: frances@chisenhaledancespace.co.uk. Read more about our commitments to anti-ableism as part of our Artist Community Culture Document
