About the Lab:

This lab explores collaborative choreography through transmediation: the practice of translating one form (text, image, gesture) into another.

Participants will select and generate short private text and translate them into individual movement phrases, layering those phrases with observed gestures into ensemble pieces- built together rather than taught.

It gives the group real emotional material, without requiring anyone to share anything aloud- Inviting you into a space where only physical translation is shared.

The session moves from observation, to private writing, to individual movement, to collective composition that builds toward a devised piece by the group at the close.

You will leave with a genuine collaboratively-made work and a transferable method for transmediating forms.

About the Lab Leader:

Tristen ZiJuin is a Malaysian, London-based performer, choreographer and theatre practitioner. Founder of The Fever Kinetic, his choreography for Catch-22 and #WFH won Best Choreographer and the Mercedes-Benz Creative Excellence Award for two consecutive years at the Short+Sweet Dance Festival Malaysia; PohLiThik received Best of 2019 at the 17th Annual BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.
