About the Lab:
Rootwork is a four-week improvisation practice and movement series open to dancers and movers at any stage.
Each session weaves somatic principles through structured improvisation and body-based listening to help you de-pattern habitual movement and find your authentic voice.
The series builds week to week with a cumulative arc:
- Week One: Begins with an honest look at where your practice lives right now.
- Week Two is about disruption: Turning off the brain and the conditioned patterning, initiating something.
- Week Three: Opens into artistic investigation playing with intention and following impulses.
- Week Four: Brings us back to the beginning to close the process and to notice how differently you arrive.
This work is as much about self-knowledge as a dance skill and less about drilling technique.
You'll leave with tools to keep developing your artistic voice: more articulate as a mover, more confident in your choices & more willing to take up space.
About the Lab Leader:
Elana Goodman is a London-based moement artist & choreographer with over 25 years of experience across contemporary and ballet. She teaches as Company Teacher at Pointe Black and is a visiting lecturer at Roehampton University. Her practice sits at the intersection of technical rigour and embodied inquiry, and she has been developing improvisational and somatic frameworks through recent creative rework sessions.

About Class Lab:
CLASS LAB is a class development scheme at Chisenhale Dance Space which helps experienced artists launch sustainable teaching practices through subsidised space, mentoring, and marketing support.
