About the Night:
Step into an evening of movement, rhythm, memory, and joyful connection inspired by Indian movement and music traditions.
Using props and instruments such as dupattas (scarves), ghungroo (ankle bells), khartal (wooden clappers), manjira (hand cymbals), damru (hand drum), and dandiya sticks (wooden dance sticks), participants are invited to touch, try, play, and move in an open, welcoming space.
We begin with a relaxed sensory arrival, followed by guided prompts that encourage curiosity, improvisation, and creative expression. Some prompts invite reflection on memory, meaning, and objects or gestures from your own culture or life. No dance experience needed, no steps to learn.
Through solo, pair, and group exploration, we’ll create rhythm and movement together, including playful jugalbandi (a back-and-forth exchange), shared sound-making, and collective energy.
The session closes with Bollywood-inspired community dancing, celebrating joy, freedom, and connection.
About the Host:
Aditi Kaushiva is a movement facilitator and founder of Move to Thrive, creating playful and inclusive spaces for wellbeing, self-expression, and connection through movement. Drawing from her South Asian heritage and her practice in mindful movement, joyful dance, and community facilitation, she creates sessions that help people feel energised, present, and connected. This event brings together cultural rhythm, creativity, and collective joy in an accessible way.
