About the Lab:
Sweat, skip and smile with Gay Gordon on Tuesday night's at Chisenhale Dance Space! Solidify existing ceilidh know-how, finesse your old favourites and even try a hand at making up your own unique two-step. Bring your favourite ceilidh partner or come as you are, and maybe leave with your future partner! There will be group, partner and polyamorous dances alike.
After the success of his recent ceilidh fundraisers, Gay Gordon wants to take a deeper dive into the origins and roots of ceilidh dancing. Join him in investigating the big questions - where do the dances originate? Can we reclaim their sometimes problematic origins? And can we create new ceilidh dances of the 21st century?
About the Lab Leader:
Gay Gordon is your stereotypical gallus scotsman, boystrous, bashful and buzzin for your attention. He has appeared at the Clapham Grand in the Man Up drag competition final 2024, The Divine, Bar Doña, Siobhan Davies and also does weddings on request. His favourite past time is sharing gender defying dance instructionals and fascillitating good vibes. Gay Gordon believes in the healing powers of social dance and sees ceilidhs as a great way of building community, meeting new people and letting go of inhibitions. What better way to fight the fascism than with dance, music and queer joy?
